On April 27, the residents of Nova Zagora (Southeastern Bulgaria) take to the streets to praise their most popular spice, which has become a tourist symbol of the town. The Samardala Festival is held for the second consecutive year and is organized by the Municipality of Nova Zagora and the local community center, BTA reported.

The town's Svoboda Square will host a reenactment of a custom representing the role of the spice in the life of Bulgarians. It will also host a trade fair for products containing samardala. There will also be a culinary exhibition.

Samardala is a herbaceous perennial with a round, sturdy stem ending in large flowers. It is a great seasoning for all dishes with potatoes, eggs, cheese, lamb, roasted mushrooms and rice. It is believed that the spice has health benefits.
