Bulgaria sees increase in the number of Ukrainian refugees

Two years after the start of the war in Ukraine, the refugee flow does not stop and is currently increasing again after a certain decline. This is claimed by Ukrainians living in Bulgaria who help with the adaptation of the newly arriving Ukrainian refugees.
Most of them are women and children. Their socialization, as well as humanitarian and psychological support, were discussed in Sveti Vlas at the Congress of Ukrainian Women in Bulgaria within the framework of a project of the European Association of Ukrainian Women, BNR Burgas reported.

About 80,000 Ukrainians are currently in Bulgaria, nearly 30,000 are in the Burgas region, at least 50% of the establishments in the Nessebar region are staffed by Ukrainians, it became clear at the forum.

"Hundreds of people arrive every day in the cities of Bulgaria. Some of them go to other countries, but a large part stay. Especially the Bessarabian Bulgarians. They speak Bulgarian and easily integrate into society," said Natalia Ellis, who actively helps the arriving Ukrainians since the first days of the war.

According to her, one of the problems that remain before the adaptation of Ukrainian refugees in Bulgaria is the recognition of higher education diplomas. "Only three doctors have so far received confirmation of their diplomas," Ellis gave an example and added that talks with the responsible institutions are pending.
