The long-awaited major renovation and restoration of the Central Sofia Market Hall (Tsentralni Hali) have now been completed. The first visitors will be able to enter Tsentralni Hali and shop there on May 23, representatives of the supermarket chain which bought the iconic building in 2021 told the BNR. The total value of the current investment exceeds BGN 50 million (EUR 25 million). The project is in full compliance with the recommendations of the National Institute of Immovable Cultural Heritage and the Ministry of Culture.

The Central Sofia Market Hall was built in 1908 by architect Naum Torbov. The archaeological heritage of Ancient Serdica is exhibited on the basement level.

There, visitors can see the remains of the defensive wall of Ulpia Serdica and a Roman bath, which were uncovered in 2000. A history and culture zone has been set up in the Central Market Hall with the help of specialists from the Regional History Museum – Sofia.
