President: Politicians who stir up tensions must declare that they will fight for Bulgaria if necessary

"All NATO member states are involved in the war in Ukraine in one way or another - providing intelligence, targeting, weapons, ammunition and training," President Rumen Radev told journalists, commenting on caretaker Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev's assurance that there was no question of sending Bulgarian troops to Ukraine.
"It doesn't matter whether our National Assembly decides (to send troops) if another country provokes a direct clash with Russia. We are a member of NATO, aren't we, Article 5?" - Radev said.
The president is on a visit to Switzerland to meet his Swiss counterpart, Viola Amherd. He said it was time to look for ways to bring peace to Ukraine on the basis of international law. He described the upcoming peace meeting in Switzerland in June as an important first step in this direction. "It is important to talk not only about arms, but also about peace," the President said, congratulating Viola Amherd for hosting the meeting.

"Our Parliament must work for a quicker end to this war, not for its further flare-up," Radev said. He said that politicians should be aware of all possible scenarios and work to ensure that the worst does not happen.

"I call on all our leaders who make decisions on sending weapons, on escalation, to undergo at least one month of intensive military training and to sign a declaration that they will fight for Bulgaria if necessary," the president added.
