More and more minors in Bulgaria take summer jobs

More and more minors have been applying to the General Labour Inspectorate for work permits for the summer vacation, BNR’s correspondent in Kyustendil Kiril Falin reports. Minors are most often hired in the hotel and restaurant industry and in commerce, or as labourers at retail stores. The legal working age in Bulgaria is 16, and minors work in alleviated working conditions (in Bulgaria minors are persons under the age of 18). For them, working time is a maximum of 35 hours in a 5-day working week, for which they are paid no less than the minimum salary for the country. Overtime and night work is prohibited for minors. Hiring minors without permission is considered a crime in Bulgaria.
