At the Boyana Residence in Sofia, Bulgaria's caretaker Prime Minister, Foreign Minister Dimitar Glavchev, welcomed the diplomatic staff at a reception marking the Bulgarian Diplomatic Service Day - 19 July and the 145th anniversary of the founding of the service.

"The diplomatic service, with its network of over 100 foreign missions and permanent missions to international organisations, more than 90 honorary consuls around the world, defends Bulgaria's interests and authority with dignity," Glavchev said.

Ensuring a stable and sustainable executive power is a priority for a good foreign policy. National interests, combined with European and Euro-Atlantic values, must continue to be defended, as well as the rights and interests of our compatriots, the prime minister said.

President Rumen Radev highlighted "strengthening the authority, role and voice of Bulgaria in the alliances it is a member of, protecting the rights and interests of Bulgarian communities abroad, defending commercial and economic interests" as the primary tasks of Bulgarian diplomacy.

"I expect Bulgarian diplomacy to actively participate in all international formats aimed at an immediate ceasefire and the establishment of a just peace and the return of international relations on the basis of international law," Radev further said, referring to the Russian aggression in Ukraine.
