No nuclear weapons will be stored at the Graf Ignatievo airbase near Plovdiv. This was confirmed in a written reply by interim Defence Minister Atanas Zapryanov to a question from BSP MP Ivan Petkov.

The new fighter jets at the base will be equipped with conventional weapons only. Facilities will be built for use by both the US and Bulgaria as part of their bilateral cooperation. The Bulgarian military will have access to all facilities and parts of the base, according to their clearance level.

Zapryanov also said that no contracts had been signed with US companies for work on the base's facilities, except for a contract with the US for the construction of the security system.
