Bulgaria's Javier Ibanez qualified for the quarterfinals of the Olympic boxing tournament in Paris in the men’s 57 kg category. The Cuban-born No 2 seed defeated Aider Abduraimov (Ukraine) 5:0. Ibanez needs one more victory to secure at least a bronze medal. On August 3, Javier Ibanez will face No. 7 seed Harada Shudai  (Japan) who is the runner-up at the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou. Ibanez is the third quarterfinalist for Bulgaria in the Olympic boxing tournament.

Stanimira Petrova reached the quarterfinals in the women’s 43 kg category after defeating the reigning world champion Huang Hsiao-Wen of Taiwan. Rami Kiwan defeated the top seed Shannan Davey of Australia in the men’s 71 kg category. Thus, the three Bulgarian boxers are just one victory away from an Olympic medal.
