This summer the Ministry of Culture is allocating funds for field archaeological excavations at 58 sites, BTA reported. More than 150 sites have applied this year, with requirements that they have not only scientific and educational value, but also potential for the development of tourism in the country.

The Ministry of Culture plans to draw up a new model and rules for funding the sites in the country, among which the importance of the excavations from a scientific point of view, as well as their exhibition value.

Teams of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, as well as representatives of the museum and scientific communities, have been involved in their elaboration.

The Ministry of Culture also cooperates with the Ministry of Tourism, working to include native sites in European cultural routes.

Funding is being considered for 3-year programmes, rather than season by season, and an option is being sought to create a Bulgarian cultural route within the European ones.
