Panagyurishte Municipality will celebrate the 75th anniversary of the discovery of the Thracian gold treasure near the town in the Sredna Gora Mountain with a lavish program.

"At the beginning of December, Panagyurishte will become a centre of Thracian studies, of knowledge about the ancient Thracians," said the mayor of the town Zhelyazko Gagov. He added that such celebrations are being organized for the first time and the idea is to acquire a national scale.
The programme will start with Dionysius' festivities, which will include a wine festival. "The Panagyurishte region has wonderful winemakers and most of the brands bear Thracian names," the mayor stressed. Ancient Thracian rituals, weaponry and martial arts will also be presented; a children's essay, art and digital message competition will be held; a documentary film will be made; and a three-day international scientific conference will take place.

The culmination will be the torchlight Orpheus procession on 8 December, followed by a concert by "Panagyurishte's modern golden treasure, namely - the children", in the words of Zhelyazko Gagov.

The celebrations will be held from 2 to 8 December under the patronage of Vice President Iliana Iotova.

The Panagyurishte Gold Treasure was discovered in 1949 by the three Deikov brothers. It contains nine vessels with a total weight of 6 kg and 164 g. One of the most interesting among them is the amphora. The scene depicted on it is believed to be a key to the treasure's unsolved secrets.
