Bulgaria's President Rumen Radev has signed a decree on the promulgation of amendments to the Pre-School and School Education Act that ban "propaganda of non-traditional sex orientation". This became clear from an announcement from presidential press secretariat.
A week ago, the National Assembly voted to ban the propaganda, promotion or incitement, in the educational system, of any ideas and views related to non-traditional sexual orientation and/or gender identity other than the biological sex. The following definition is also introduced: "Non-traditional sexual orientation is different from the commonly accepted and established in Bulgarian legal tradition understandings of emotional, romantic, sexual, or sensual attraction between individuals of opposite sexes."
LGBTQ+ activists opposed the amendments and called on the head of state to veto them. Another protest by the LGBTQ+ community is scheduled for today.
