In the next 10 years, more than 19,000 megawatts of new capacities will be built in Bulgaria, as 90% of them will use renewable energy sources such as the sun, wind and water, according to the ten-year plan for the development of the transmission electricity network of the Electricity System Operator. 85 percent of the new RES capacities will be photovoltaic plants.

The plan does not include new nuclear power capacities due to the complexity and long process of construction.

According to the Electricity System Operator, in the coming years the country, which is now a major exporter, will cover its consumption by importing electricity at a more competitive price.
