Union demands 15% pay rise for teachers to attract men into education

The Bulgarian Teachers' Union is proposing that teachers' salaries be increased by at least 15% by 2025. The move is expected to attract more men into teaching, helping to balance the profession and make it less feminised. 


This was said by Yanka Takeva, head of the Bulgarian Teachers' Union, at the International Education Forum "Education through the Paradigm of Humanism and Artificial Intelligence" in Varna. If in the past there was a shortage of teachers in the humanities, now there is a shortage in science and mathematics. This year, some 2,500 retirees will re-enter the education system.
