Bulgaria ranks second in the world in terms of bread consumption

Bulgaria ranks second in the world in terms of bread consumption after Turkiey, reported BNT citing the Turkish news site Yenigün. According to the statistics, the average bread consumption in Turkiye is nearly 200 kg per person per year while the average bread consumption in Bulgaria is 131.1 kg per person per year.

Ukraine ranks third with 88 kg per capita, followed by Greece (70 kg), Germany (57 kg), Russia (54 kg), Switzerland (48 kg), Saudi Arabia (39 kg), Japan (28.3 kg) and South Africa (25.8 kg).

Bread is an essential part of the Bulgarian table and ritual breads and loaves are an integral part of people’s lives.
