The Commission for Consumer Protection has ordered the immediate withdrawal from the market of two products known as energy sniff, which are inhaled through the nose and are an alternative to energy drinks. The products have been identified as a serious threat to human health and safety, the Commission said. A decree prohibits the production, import and distribution of such products on the territory of Bulgaria.

According to the National Centre for Public Health and Analysis and the Expert Panel on ENT Diseases, these products and the way they are used, by inhalation, pose a risk. It is pointed out that their systemic use can lead to thinning of the nasal mucosa, perforation of the nasal septum and even obstruction of the airways.
