The commercial launch of the liquefied natural gas terminal in Alexandroupolis, Greece, is expected today. The terminal has already successfully completed all commissioning tests.

The opening was originally scheduled for April 2024, but was later postponed due to a technical defect. Bulgaria, through its company Bulgartransgaz, is a co-owner of the floating terminal project. "The start of commercial operations of the terminal this autumn will ensure the security of gas supplies for the coming winter season for the region of Southeast Europe in view of the possible suspension of Russian natural gas transit through Ukrainian territory from the beginning of next year," Energy Minister Vladimir Malinov said in August.

Minister Malinov is currently on a working visit to the US. His programme includes meetings with representatives of Westinghouse and the Export-Import Bank of the United States on the forthcoming construction of units 7 and 8 of Bulgaria's Kozloduy nuclear power plant.
