A grave of a deceased person, with anti-vampire rituals performed on the body, was discovered during the latest archaeological excavations in Perperikon, Professor Nikolai Ovcharov told BTA. The find emerged among nearly 250 uncovered graves and tombs near the Great Basilica in the Southern Quarter of the medieval archaeological complex.
In 2013, another ''vampire'' grave was found at Perperikon. The skeleton discovered had a metal ploughshare driven into the left side of the body. At that time, Professor Ovcharov described the finding as a ''twin'' of a previously uncovered grave of a feudal lord in Sozopol. ''These two skeletons caused great interest back then. There were thousands of reports worldwide and later we made several films with National Geographic, Discovery Channel and Japanese TV stations'', the archaeologist recalled.
