Only a court decision can change the results of election protocols

The Central Election Commission (CEC) does not have the right under the Election Code to correct the results of the vote after errors in the counting of votes and in the completion of the protocols, found in the video recordings, Deputy Chairman of the CEC Rositsa Mateva told BNT.

The wrong protocols were not corrected in the regional election commissions because the law does not oblige the commissions to watch the video surveillance recordings. If more than 11,626 recordings from the sections were to be checked, the announcement of the election result would take more than four days, Mateva said. She added that only the court could request correction of the results and recalled that wrongly completed protocols is an official offence but the Election Code does not provide for a sanction.
