"Fish is abundant in Bulgarian Black Sea waters. Moreover, fish processing is at a very high European level." This is what Dr Yordan Gospodinov, Executive Director of the BG Fish Products Producers Association and Chairman of the Black Sea Advisory Council, told BNR on the eve of St Nicholas Day - the holiday of fishermen and sailors. Black Sea fish is one of the best quality fish for Eastern Europe, he stressed.

On the Bulgarian market, the fish is offered at a price that is affordable for Bulgarian consumers. However, according to the association, Bulgaria consumes about 10 kg of fish products per capita per year, which is low compared to European consumption. Almost 2/3 of Bulgarian trout and carp are exported to Romania. Bulgaria exports to Asian and European markets.
