The Situation Center of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has published important information for all Bulgarians in California, USA. "An earthquake with a magnitude of 7.0 on the Richter scale was registered off the northern coast of California at 10:49 a.m. local time, with tremors felt throughout the region. The epicenter was 39 miles west of Petrolia."

The Foreign Ministry recommends that "Bulgarian citizens strictly follow the instructions of local authorities and inform themselves about the current situation." The US authorities initially issued a tsunami warning before lifting it later. If assistance is needed, Bulgarian citizens can contact the Bulgarian Consulate General in Los Angeles. Signals and requests for assistance are also accepted 24/7 by the Situation Center of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
