Caretaker Minister of Foreign Affairs Ivan Kondov participated in the regular meeting of the EU Foreign Affairs Council in Brussels, BTA reports. This was the first meeting chaired by the new EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas.

The Council adopted new restrictive measures against Russia, including proposals for the 15th package of sanctions and a new regime to counter Russia's hybrid and destabilizing actions. Ivan Kondov emphasized the importance of unity in the EU's actions and noted that Bulgaria supports deepening cooperation and defensе support for the Ukrainian armed forces.

The situation in Syria following the fall of Bashar al-Assad's regime was also discussed. Minister Kondov described the event as historic after 13 years of violence and civil war. He called for the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 2254, a political transition involving all segments of Syrian society, and an active role of the EU in this process.
