A program of the Sofia Municipality called “Big Brother/Sister” will provide support, friendship and inspiration to children in family-type accommodation centers, the municipal administration announced.

“With a little attention and care, we can change the lives of these children,” says Deputy Mayor Nadezhda Bacheva. According to her, the program will help children increase their communication skills, self-esteem and motivation to learn.

Volunteers aged 17 to 25 are expected to connect with children in need of a positive example and mentorship. They will participate with them in various activities – art workshops, games, helping with lessons, sports activities, creative performances, film screenings, discussions, as well as visiting cultural and educational sites on weekends.

The program is part of the Sofia Municipality's strategy to create a more cohesive and supportive environment for children in social services.
