President Rumen Radev handed over the first cabinet-forming mandate to Rosen Zhelyazkov, who was nominated by GERB-SDS for Prime Minister. "We appreciate the time you have given us. It was not wasted", said Rosen Zhelyazkov upon receiving the folder from Rumen Radev. "Despite our differences, we made the necessary compromises. In politics, the ability to make compromises is more valuable. The big political compromise is that I am in this position, not our leader Boyko Borissov. At the same time, we did not accept the formula for an equidistant prime minister. The formula is for a broad parliamentary majority, which allows the country to have a government that will address the issues facing Bulgaria – absorption of EU resources, better governance in the name of justice and better functioning of state institutions. The government will seek broad institutional consensus to restore good governance in Bulgaria. Within a month, we will present a governance program", said Rosen Zhelyazkov.

He returned to President Radev a folder with the completed mandate, structure and composition of the future cabinet. Bulgaria’s head of state said that on Wednesday (January 15) he would submit to Parliament a decree for the election of Rosen Zhelyazkov as Prime Minister of a regular government.

The prospective cabinet consists of three deputy prime ministers – Tomislav Donchev from GERB, Atanas Zafirov from BSP and Grozdan Karadzhov from There Is Such a People, as well as 19 ministers. GERB-SDS will have 11 ministers. BSP will have five representatives in the cabinet and ITN will have four representatives.

  • Georgi Tahov – Minister of Agriculture and Food
  • Zhecho Stankov – Minister of Energy
  • Valentin Mundrov – Minister of E-Governance
  • Miroslav Borshosh – Minister of Tourism
