Protest in Sofia demands better access to Vitosha Mountain

A protest demonstration was held today in front of the Council of Ministers in the capital under the banner "Reclaiming access to Vitosha". Mountain lovers expressed their dissatisfaction with the fact that the lifts on Vitosha, at the foot of which Sofia is situated, are no longer working. Buses can handle the traffic on weekdays, but on weekends and holidays, the flow of people wanting to climb the mountain is many times greater than the capacity of public transport.

"We just want lifts and normal access, we want normal rides, a normal road where we can drive without trees falling on us," protesters told BNR reporter Mila Mladenova.

The Metropolitan Transport Company promised to provide more buses to the mountains. On weekends, between 10am and 3pm, cars are not allowed on the roads to Aleko and Zlatnite Mostov, where the most popular tourist routes start.
