A Karakachan procession demonstrating the nomad past of this ethnic group, took place during the 28th National gathering of Karakachans in Bulgaria. The festival took place during the weekend in the Karandila locality near the town of Yambol. The reenactment of everyday scenes is done for the first time. It is made with the goal to stir interest in the past-time everyday life of the Karakachans, their traditions and customs.  Photo: BTA


The interest in Aladja Monastery – the most popular medieval rock monastery along the Bulgarian Black Sea coast, continues to be huge. The secluded sanctuary was inhabited by hermit monks in the 13th and the 14th centuries. Visitors to the place nowadays are predominantly foreign tourists. An Ice-cream Festival took place in Sofia during the weekend. People could taste all sorts of flavors and ice-cream of all colors. This black variety is achieved by adding to ice-cream activated carbon.  Photo: BGNES
