A scherzo-horo danse, a suite of folk danses and more virtuoso pieces are to sound this evening in the rendition of the Folk Orchestra of the Bulgarian national Radio. The concert in Studio 1 of BNR is to be conducted by the author of these pieces - composer Georgi Andreev.
Composer of folk music for orchestras and choirs Georgi Andreev is known for his symphonic works and original oratorio compositions on the border between folklore and classical music. He graduated from the National School of Folk Arts in Shiroka Luka as a rebeck player and the National Academy of Music as a composer and specialized in orchestral conducting. For more than ten years he has been chief conductor of the Philip Koutev National Folklore Ensemble. The choir of the prestigious orchestra will also take part in the concert. Among the soloists are folk singers Neli Andreeva, Nina Arnaudova, Tanya Parvanova, Milena Stavreva, bagpiper Petyo Kostadinov and rebeck player Peyo Peev Here is what the composer told Radio Bulgaria about the upcoming concert:
"For the first time I have the opportunity and pleasure to conduct an entire concert of the great Orchestra for Folk Music of the radio and soloists of the Philip Koutev Ensemble. This is a co-production, centered around my original works and arrangements that I've created over the years. I included recent works and some that I wrote 23 years ago, for example. If I need to mention titles these are "Petrunino Horo" and "Horo-scherzo Kalushari," which the orchestra recorded for the BNR’s fund. For the first time I am to offer a concert performance of my ‘Nadigravane’ suite, and I would play the rebec myself. There will be various performances and I have also prepared a surprise for the audience.”
