A concert that the Bulgarian National Radio Folk Music Orchestra will present on April 21 in Studio 1 also features famous and beloved singers from neighbouring countries. Conductor Dimitar Hristov told us more about the project. The concert on is the third one in the series.
More from conductor Dimitar Hristov:
“We continue with one of our most successful projects - Rhythm of the Balkans. In two editions of this concert cycle we have presented musicians from almost all Balkan countries. But singers in the region are no inferior in virtuosity of performance. We have been planning this concert for a long time and we are happy that we will be on stage together with four wonderful vocalists. Among them is Naum Petreski from Macedonia. The songs he sings are performed in Bulgaria by different generations of musicians. His wife Zoitsa Lazova is also a popular musician, as well as his daughter Anastasia Petreski. In the near future we plan to do something together with this artistic family, but now the audience will enjoy the performance of Naum - one of the most famous singers of Macedonia. Haig Yazdjian – a participant, who arrives from Greece, has gathered influences from several different cultures. He is Armenian, born in Syria, but has been living in Greece since a child. Haig is the only singer who participates in the concert also as instrumentalist. He plays the ancient instrument oud. Great singer Meral Azizoglu comes from Turkey. She has released a new album, with folklore from Istanbul. It collects many interesting pieces of traditional music of this city, home to people of different ethnicities and of different religions. Our guest from Serbia is young lady Danica Krstic. In my opinion there is bright future for her in music. It is a colourful team we have gathered.”
“We expect our loyal audience as it has been together with the orchestra over the past few seasonsЧр conductor Dimitar Hristov goes to say. "This is the audience that knows a concert in Studio 1 of the radio always means good music. To my joy more young music lovers have started to come to our concerts. Friends from Skopje, Belgrade, and Krusevac are also expected to arrive. Many people will see the event online, thanks to the direct broadcasting by Radio Binar – BNR. The concerts of the Folk Music Orchestra of the BNR attract the interest of fans of traditional music not only from the Balkans but also from various countries across the world – even from faraway countries like Peru.”
