Single information system to link Bulgarian hotels, Tourism Ministry, National Revenue Agency and Ministry of Interior in real time

A Single Tourism Information System is to link in real time the registers of the Bulgarian hotels with the Bulgarian Ministry of Tourism, Bulgaria’s Ministry of Interior, the National Revenue Agency and the Bulgarian municipalities. This will happen due to amendments in the country’s Tourism Act. Experts expect that the new system would reduce the level of shadow economy in the sector and would increase the revenues from tourism in the state budget. A direct link between the hotel keepers and the Single Tourism Information System would alleviate the procedure for exchange of data from the registers of the accommodated tourist in Bulgaria. The tourist information sent to the Single Tourism Information System will be divided into two groups. The first group will include data about Bulgarian tourists, tourists from the European Union, tourists from countries which are members of the Agreement on the European Economic Area and tourists from Switzerland. The hotel keepers are obliged to provide information about their number, nationality and the date of registration and departure. The second category data is about other foreign tourists. It will provide information about their names, their date of birth, nationality and number of their ID card. The data in the Single Tourism Information System will not be made public. Only limited number of people and institutions set by the law will have access to that information.
