Professor Borislava Taneva is a celebrated Bulgarian music pedagogue, musician and composer. At the end of 2015 Professor Taneva was given the Crystal Lyre Award of the Union of Bulgarian Musicians and Dansers and Classic FM Radio for her overall contribution to music as a music pedagogue. She received a plaque for active creative work in this year's edition of the Musician of the Year poll of Allegro Vivace classical music show of the Bulgarian National Radio Horizont Channel. Borislava takes active part in various concerts and holds a series of master classes in Bulgaria and abroad. In several days she is to meet with students in Geneva (Switzerland), where she has been lecturing for many years. Professor Taneva was also appointed Deputy Rector of the National Music Academy named after Professor Pancho Vladigerov.

Borislava Taneva graduated from the National School of Music with a gold medal. Later she joined the National Music Academy in the piano classes of Professors Julia and Konstantin Ganevi. She also studied composition in the classes of Professor Parashkev Hadjiev. Borislava herself was lecturing at the National Music Academy since 1989. Back in the 1980's she won some piano contests such as Sinegallia (1983), Svetoslav Obretenov (1989). She also won music prizes from international competitions in Tokyo (2000) and Caltanissetta (1996) in a piano duo with musician Ilia Chernaev.

“Perhaps, my most precious music award is from Torneo Internazionale di Musica in 1998 where I formed a duo with Ilia Chernaev. We received the highest scores of the jury and the audience out of all 3,800 participants in all music categories and we became absolute winners. I am also very proud with my awards for my children's compositions. I believe that the music I wrote for our children is the most precious of all I have done - piano pieces, music for puppet theaters and songs performed for many years by popular children's vocal group Bon-Bon, which is a great honor. I have been trying in recent years to unite different people around common ideas. Being a music pedagogue I have been making efforts to help develop young and talented Bulgarian children. I have various projects linked with the creation of contemporary music. One of those projects is named Microcosmos-a concert programme consisting of 60 one minute long pieces written by colleagues from all parts of the globe. Music fans showed strong interest in that project which was probably due to the short duration of the pieces, a kind of music short messages and instant photos of the authors' lives. I presented that project in Luxembourg, Geneva, Sofia, etc. I also founded the Association for Bulgaria-Switzerland Cultural Relations in Geneva. The purpose of the association is to allow young Bulgarian musicians play in Switzerland and their Swiss coevals to perform on Bulgarian stages.

We collaborate well with the Philharmonic Orchestra from the city of Vidin (Northwestern Bulgaria). In 2016 we are to welcome for the second time Swiss students who will perform as soloists in that Bulgarian orchestra.”

One of the causes Professor Taneva has been supporting for many years is linked with the popularization of the Bulgarian composers’ school abroad.

"I hold many concerts in Bulgaria and abroad. One of my music programmes consists of 15 pieces representing different artistic generations. Professor Pancho Vladigerov, Marin Goleminov, Dimitar Nenov, Lubomir Pipkov, Georgi Minchev and Yulia Tsenova are among the authors of those pieces. My father Alexander Tanev wrote one of the music pieces. I also perform a jazz piece by Hristo Yotsov. I offer 3 or 4 options for a music programme when I receive an invitation for a concert and I am extremely happy that the organizers usually choose the Bulgarian collection. I always talk to the audience during my concerts and give them information about the authors of the pieces and on what occasion a given piece was written. I hold discussions with many people after the concerts and answer various questions. I want to prove with that project that Bulgaria was also part of the processes that have been happening in world music since the first decades of the 20th century until now."
