After PM Boyko Borissov stated that the ruling GERB party would “not take any part in governance" if its presidential candidate Tsetska Tsacheva loses the presidential runoff, President Rosen Plevneliev commented that a resignation by the government did not necessarily mean a parliamentary crisis. He declared he was ready to make use of all constitutional options for overcoming a possible government crisis.

If the cabinet was to resign, the head of state must entrust two other political forces, represented in parliament, to form a cabinet. Should they fail, he must appoint a caretaker cabinet.
