Antihypocrisyl-medicine for mediocrity and bad mood

БНР Новини

The Bulgarian premiere of Antihypocrisyl album will be held tonight in Sofia Live Club. The new music project consists of author's pieces of the celebrated Bulgarian saxophonistVladimir Karparov. The album which was published by the Swiss company Unit Records was released on the music market a week ago. Vladimir Karparov plays on tenor, soprano and alto saxophone together with pianist Konstantin Kostov, Scott White (double bass and bass guitar) and Dimitris Christides (percussions). The name of the album comes from the eponymous piece which was placed first in the CD. It sounds like a name of a medicine. The box of that “medicine” was placed on the CD cover. Vladimir Karparov's new project undoubtedly fightsmediocrity, boredom and bad mood. Radoslav Slavchev (double bass) and Vasil Spasov (piano) replace the foreign musicians in the forthcoming two concerts.

Here is what renowned Bulgarian musicianVladimir Karparov told Radio Bulgaria about his latest music album:

“Those who listen to my music know that I have always been trying to make the worlds of jazz and Bulgarian folklore closer. I do this by intuition and own conviction. Antihypocrisyl continues that line. I created most of the tunes in the new compositions. Theyare combinedwith jazz harmony and many polyrhythmic moments. I invited celebrated Bulgarian musicians to become part of that album such as Nedyalko Nedyalkov (shepherd's pipe), Stoyan Yankulov-Stundzhi (percussions), Petar Ralchev (accordion). Bulgarian singer Neno Iliev sang perfectly the Macedonian song Uchi Me Maiko, Karai Me.”

Vladimir has been living in Germany for decades. He works in various music fields. He heads the Vladimir Karparov quartet and Forkolor Saxophone Quartet. He also takes part in other music formations. What are Vladimir's most interesting recent projects?

“Recently we presented an interesting music project together with guitarist Uwe Kropinski and cellist Susanne Paul. I have been playing together with Uwe and Susanne for three years. We released a CD and are currently working on a second one. I would love to record an album with Bulgaria's jazz pianist Antoni Donchev who is an exceptional musician. I form duos with Antoni every now and then. We also made a trio together with Austrian bassist Georg Breinschmid. I play a lot with Berlin-based Balkan bands and continue learning that type of music. In the beginning of 2016 I launched a new project-Balkan Spirit Ensemble. Musicians of different nationalities take part at that project, including Bulgarian singer Katya Tasheva who is unknown in Bulgaria, but possesses huge vocal potential. I have been preparing a CD with those musicians as well, because I already arranged songs from almost all Balkan countries. Our main idea is to make a contemporary interpretation of those wonderful pieces. I am about to fulfill another music project as well. I will present my own music together with Nedyalko Nedyalkov and renowned saxophonist Chris Potter. This is something like” the East meets the West”. Those two soloists have been inspiring me for many years and I would love to meet them through my own music. I hope that we will present that project in Bulgaria as well. ”
