The Public Council for the Bulgarian National Radio insists categorically that Musicautor should reconsider its stand related to the financial requests towards the BNR. A statement of the BNR Public Council reads that due to its public function the Bulgarian National Radio has to create and spread high-quality content to all stratums and preserve the national memory. That is why any commercial approach is not applicable. The public media are subject to special legislation and care due to their responsible tasks in favor of the whole society, the BNR Public Council further underlines. Musicautor terminated unilaterally the contract with the Bulgarian National Radio on January 1, 2017, because the BNR rejected its request for a drastic increase of the money paid for copyrights. That is why the Bulgarian National Radio has been unable to play contemporary music since the beginning of the year.
