Christian Bakalov returned to Bulgaria for few days only to present his creative workshops. The initiative is supported by National CultureFund of Bulgaria and the Bulgarian Ministry of Culture. Christian graduated from the State Choreographic School in Sofia in 1991 and joined immediately the Jeune Ballet de France in Paris. His dance career continued at the National Choreographic Center Claude Brumachon in Nantes. He was taking part in a series of world tours in Europe, Latin America, Africa and the USA with that dance formation. Christian Bakalov presented in Bulgaria's capital Sofia the first stage of his large-scale project entitled SMALL FUTURE held within the frameworks of the DNK- space for contemporary dance and performance at the National Palace of Culture. Isn't Christian Bakalov's project a bit strange?
“I work in Brussels under such type of projects and shows and I must admit that the audience there is quite surprised as well. SMALL FUTURE is part of another project named Big Future. It will be fulfilled in Belgium in June this year. The main conception of that project envisages work with amateurs and people of different social groups and at different age, disadvantaged people and people with disabilities. Everyone who wants to experience something new and inspiring can take part at that project. Together we can make a unique interactive show. The audience of SMALL FUTURE project will sink into unknown artistic environment and will be able to explore unknown forms of perception in art. Those people will not be passive spectators only. On the contrary, they will have the opportunity to co-participate at the show. I record their reactions and those who watch themselves later tell me that they never experienced anything like this before”, Christian says enthusiastically.
It is interesting to learn how a Bulgarian artist managed to progress in artistic environments in countries like Belgium and France. Christian Bakalov is extremely thankful to destiny, because he has been able to fulfill his dreams and ambitionsfor over 25 years. He also suffered several bad injuries. He remembered that when he broke his leg, he started to participate at the stage plays of world celebrated directors such as Jan Fabre, Gerome Bel and Ivo Dimchev. He continues to work with Mr Dimchev even now. Christian faced a series of difficulties in his career. In his view, when people want to work with the best artists and do things their own way, they must be ready to fully fulfill their dreams. Those moments predispose us to advance to another level in our lives and our career, to climb another stair and soar above our usual condition, choreographer Christian Bakalov further said.
“The main message I would like to send through my art is that we are all equal on this land and that we are filled with a lot of beauty, generosity and love towards the neighbor. We should always go to bed and wake up with those feelings and should never forget that we are all travelers in life. We must remember that we live our lives, in order to progress, share and help people next to us”, Christian Bakalov said in conclusion.
