Atanas Zapryanov: Wars of future will be predominantly hybrid

The wars of the future will be predominantly hybrid and information technologies and non-military means will be more widely used in them, Bulgaria’s Deputy Minister of Defense Atanas Zapryanov pointed out at a scientific conference named Future Armed Forces 2040 held in Bulgaria’s capital Sofia. This sets new requirements on the country’s armed forces, Deputy Minister Zapryanov went on to say. The full interoperability between the Bulgarian armed forces and its NATO allies would allow us to face the future challenges. In 2017 Bulgaria is to spend 1.5% of its gross domestic product on defense, if that country manages to absorb EUR 201 million allotted to projects for purchase of new type fighter jets for the Bulgarian Air Force and new warships for the Bulgarian Navy. We are still far from our target to spend 2% of the country’s GDP on defense, Deputy Minister Zapryanov pointed out.
