A scene from the movie Nise– the Heart of Madness

Нара ВасконселосThe Brazilian Movie and Culture Week starts today (October 30th) in Sofia and will last till November 5th. There are 22 titles in the program and the screenings will take place at the G8 Cultural Center and at the Euro Cinema. Mrs. Nara Vasconselos, a representative of the Instituto Cultural Zenon Barreto is the main organizer of the event, with the support of the Brazilian Embassy.

“I touched upon the soul of the people here through Bulgarian art,” says Mrs. Vasconselos, who has been a Sofia resident for 12 years now. “I like your country, I know many artists and intellectuals, I appraise highly their work and achievements. I try to present Bulgarian culture to Brazil and vice versa, in order to establish sustainable bilateral relations in the sphere.”

More from Mrs. Vasconselos:

Mrs. Vasconselos also told us that during the literature evening (October 31st) there will be presentations of two books of Brazil-residing Bulgarian Ilko Minev, also the Brazilian Cycle book of poetry of Elisaveta Bagryana in its Portuguese translation and Lobo Pasolini’s 'Ponto de Fuga' ('Vanishing Point) book. The Brazilian writer arrives to Sofia exclusively for the event that will be at the Egg Club in Sofia University. There will be a meeting on October 31st, devoted to the Espirito Santo state of Brazil – we will get in touch with the culture of this relatively unknown part of that country via an exhibition of engravings, talks with Brazilian people of art, music and even handmade beer.

“We opted for finishing the Brazilian Movie and Culture Week with the same movie that we had started it with,” Nara Vasconselos goes on to say. “The second screening will be on November 11th and will be followed by a discussion of the problems, tackled in the film. We have invited therapists for the so-called film reading and hopefully it will be interesting.”
