Bulgarian President Rumen Radev has returned the Combating Corruption and Forfeiting Illegally Acquired Assets Bill for new debates at the National Assembly, by disputing the bill in principle and as a whole.
The motives to return the bill include a substantial disparity of the document with the goal it is aimed to pursue – notably, effective combating of corruption, as well as certain deviations from fundamental provisions of the Constitution and from international agreements to which the Republic of Bulgaria is a party.
According to the head of state combating corruption cannot be limited to the measures envisaged in the bill. These measures though necessary are not sufficient for effective combating of corruption that society expects to see.
