Prison guards in Bulgaria organize national protest

On their professional holiday – 29 January – guards in prisons, places of detention and courthouse buildings in Bulgaria are organizing the latest in a string of protests demanding decent wages and better working conditions.

In Sofia, the protest started early this morning at the entrance to the Sofia Regional Courthouse. Demonstrations are also taking place in other towns across the country. The prison staff trade union says that the protest campaign mottoed “Europe for us too” will continue through the months of Bulgaria’s Presidency of the Council of the EU.
