The average wage per hour in the European Union amounted to EUR 23, while in Bulgaria the hourly pay was four times lower- just over EUR 5 per hour. In Bulgaria’s northern neighbor Romania the hourly wages amounted to EUR 5.50. Wages in Bulgaria remain lowest in the whole EU, although a record-high increase of 122% was registered in the past 10 years. In 2007 the hourly pay in this country was at EUR 2.30.
