US State of Maryland includes Bulgarian as foreign language in secondary education diplomas

The Department of Education of the US State of Maryland has informed the Bulgarian Embassy in Washington of its decision to include the Bulgarian language in the Seal of Biliteracy program.

The decision is the result of the embassy's action aimed at recognizing and including Bulgarian language in the program of the District of Colombia and the States of Maryland and Virginia.

After successfully passing a Bulgarian language exam, in the graduates' diplomas it would be written that in addition to English, the graduate is proficient in Bulgarian, too. The certificate will also provide advantages when applying for a university, BTA reported.
