The construction of the wire fence along the entire 133-km. length of Bulgaria’s land border with Romania has been completed.
The fence was put up as a preventive measure to check the spread of African swine fever from Romania, where outbreaks of the disease have been confirmed.
Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Food and Forestry Yanko Ivanov stated that the finishing touches are at this moment being put to the fence – razor wire and repellents as an additional deterrent to migrating animals.
Observations by the patrols along the fence indicate that at this time there is no movement of animals towards Bulgarian territory.
