A check of the Sofia Municipality has shown that 40 monumental buildings in Sofia are in a state of emergency and are left to go in ruins by their owners. The municipality has formed a working group to prepare proposals for amendments to the Cultural Heritage Act and a mechanism by which property owners of cultural value are encouraged to repair and maintain them, the 24 Hours newspaper writes.

The list of valuable properties in need of renovation are administrative and residential buildings, as well as church properties. Among them is the St. George Rotunda, located behind the building of the Presidency. The Rotunda dates back to the beginning of the 4th century and the times of Emperor Constantine the Great (306-337), who had repeatedly resided in Serdica and who used to say: "Serdika – this is my Rome"
