Ion Galea: Romanian presidency of Council of EU to build on work of Bulgarian and Austrian presidencies

The Romanian presidency of the Council of the EU will build on the work of the Bulgarian and Austrian ones. This was what Romania's Ambassador Ion Galea said at a meeting he organized in Sofia on the presentation of the priorities of the Romanian EU Presidency. The meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ekaterina Zaharieva and heads of diplomatic missions in the country.

Galea said that the Romanian Presidency will be held at a time of major challenges for Europe. The work program will have four priorities. The first is to ensure the equal development of all citizens and Member States by increasing competitiveness and reducing development gaps; the second - raising security, the third - promoting enlargement policy in the Western Balkans. The fourth priority is a Europe of common values ​​- fostering solidarity in the EU by promoting policies to combat discrimination and encouraging young people to participate in European debates.
