Artists are usually distinguished by their unique creative style. Such is the case also with the works of young Bulgarian artist Veselka Velinova. Apart from drawing beautiful and recognizable pictures, she is also known for her love of experimentation. As a result of yet another interesting idea of hers, art fans can now enjoy her new series of 12 cat paintings, each created in an artistic style inherent to a famous artist or an art movement. How did this idea come to life?
“It originated when I was still at university and we had classes in History of Art. It was a rather boring subject but the professor presented it in a very interesting way, so I sought further information about the artists, the styles, I wanted to study them in more detail as a technique and a way of thinking. And I decided to try myself. I chose cats precisely because I think they can be drawn in any style. I've seen dishevelled cats with scarred noses that look like Picasso's paintings, affectionate cats like in a Klimt's picture ... So I think they're best suited for such an artistic project”, Veselka Velinova explains.
Impressionism turns into the greatest challenge for the young artists because every little dot in an impressionist painting takes a long time to make. For the paintings she used watercolours, tempera and collage, depending on what is closer to the style of the respective artist. And for all her current and future fans Vesselka Velinova is preparing a new surprise:
“I've decided to attempt a painting following Salvador Dali’s style, also a painting with a Chinese brush, which is a challenge to me because it is a very difficult technique, and I also want to try engraving. I will try to recreate the style of Bulgarian artist Vladimir Dimitrov aka the Master”, says Veselka, revealing some details about her future project. “I intend to have the new 12 paintings ready this year. I am fond of cats, I hope you will enjoy them too!”
