The Bulgarians drink an average of 4.3 liters of wine per year. However, they buy 2.2 liters of wine a year on average, the National Statistical Institute announced on occasion of the forthcoming feast of vine-growers and wine-makers, which means that a large quantity of homemade wine is produced in this country. In 2017 over 138 million liters of wine was produced by 210 companies. However, exports of white and red wine in the recent years fell from the record-high quantity of 232 million liters in 2008 to just over 100 million liters in 2017.
