The Bulgarian MPs decided that the new road toll system must be launched until March 1, 2020 at the latest. The road toll system had to start on August 16 this year, but the Bulgarian haulers disagreed with the tariffs that were proposed initially. That is why, the Bulgarian government decided that the system will first start operating in a test regime and the collection of the road toll fees levied on vehicles weighing above 3.5 tons will be postponed. If tests turn successful and a quick consensus on the scope of the road network and the size of the toll fees is achieved, the system may be launched even earlier than the deadline. The money collected from road toll fees should be spent on the maintenance and the development of the road network.
