Atanassovsko Lake is an attractive place for guests from near and far but among the most exciting of them are the numerous flamingos who have settled in the quiet and secure basins in the northern part of the lake. This year ornithologists have observed a record number of these beautiful birds – 159.  Photo: BGNES

Until August 23 visitors to the “Dvoretsa” Art Center in the Black Sea resort of Balchik, can see the exposition “Paintings on water” of designer Antoaneta Bebenova. The technique is called ebru and the transferring of the picture is made on paper, fabric or other absorbent surface. The resulting painting is often a surprise for the painter herself as the image is rather unpredictable, the author told Horizont Channel of the BNR. Photo: private library of Antoaneta Bebenova

A fragment from a Roman military diploma was unearthed during excavations in the central part of theRoman settlement of Deultum near the village of Debelt, Sredetz municipality. The find is unique and this is the first such discovery in the nearly 4 decades of archeological works on the site of the old Roman colony, the director of the archeological reserve Krassimira Kostova said in an interview for Radio Burgas. The analysis of the text shows that half a century after the inauguration of the colony, the Roman emperors kept sending veterans to settle in the place and support Roman spirit in Deultum.  Photo: archaeologia-bulgarica.com
