Young actress Chloe Rahal to star in second Bulgarian movie

Chloe Rahal is daughter of Bulgarian actor Bashar Rahal, who has played many roles in Hollywood movies. Chloe Rahal is currently shooting in a second Bulgarian movie. Recently, she has become a winner of the American National Youth Arts Awards. The teenager, who is studying at a theater school in Los Angeles and follows in her father's footsteps, won the lead role award. She played the role of a male character and competed with 240 young artists for the award. Portraying the protagonist of Ken Kesey's novel One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest – Randle Patrick McMurphy, not only makes her a recognizable name among future stars in the US, but brings her just a little bit closer to her favorite actor Jack Nicholson.

“It was very different from everything so far, because the male role should be played by a big guy, and I'm not one,” Chloe Rahal says. “The female lead role, on the other hand, could not be played by a woman because we were going to lose some nuances. And we totally changed things. I talked to our director a lot about the decision to change the sex of the lead roles, and the explanation was that since the play and the movie with Jack Nicholson are so popular, people would expect the actors to play just as well. And that can't happen. Nobody can play this role like Jack Nicholson. So, the audience now sees something different and I really like that decision.”

Since an early age Chloe has been accompanying her father to Hollywood film sets. She has been living in the city of actors near the Lee Strasberg Theater and Film School and it seems her path in life is clear.

“My parents did not want me to become an actress and they urged me to go in other directions, because they know how harsh this industry could be and how much strength one needs in order not to go crazy. However, at six Chloe started studying in Lee Strasbourg and at ten played her first role – that of Scarlett O'Hara.

“Theatre acting is very difficult because it takes a lot of effort in this industry to find a job and make money – it is even harder than cinema,” Chloe Rahal says. “I like both of them and I want to do both cinema and theatre. But I would not like playing in commercial films and forget about theater, because I like the stage more than the camera.”

Currently, Chloe is filming her second Bulgarian film, Reunion (“Zavrashtane”), directed by Niki Iliev, in which she plays the role of a confused teenager in conflict with her parents. Bashar Rahal, in addition to his role in the movies is also its producer.

“Playing in a movie together with my dad is something rather different than what I have experienced before,” Chloe Rahal says. “I went through the casting and on the set he treats me like any other actor. However, if I make any mistakes, he comes right away to correct me. Playing with your father is also something emotional. There was an emotional scene that we had to cut because I started crying so loud that it was recorded by the microphone.”

After shooting is complete, Chloe would return to Los Angeles to continue her studies and to star in a short film together with Hollywood star Kate Beckinsale, as the movie is to be shot in Bulgaria and New York. Chloe Rahal is to play the role of the Fifth Musketeer in a modern theatrical version of “The Three Musketeers.”
