Better living conditions, more jobs and opportunities for the young people to return to their home places, this is what most people from the small Bulgarian towns and villages vote for at today’s local elections. In over half of the municipalities in Kardzhali district (South Bulgaria) there is only one candidate for mayor, a reference of the municipal electoral commissions in the region shows, BNR-Radio Kardzhali informs. The village of Pripek is one of these municipalities. Most young people left this village due to the lack of employment. Some women found jobs in a factory in the nearby town of Dzhebel, but men cannot find any jobs, the local residents comment. The young people should be able to find jobs. Otherwise, the village will be completely depopulated, the local residents contend. In the village of Drangovo (Kardhzali district) the situation is similar. It is sad that almost all young people left the village. They all go to the big cities and abroad, Tsvetana Topchieva who works as kindergarten teacher in Drangovo says. Fortunately, the local school and kindergarten have not been closed down yet, Tsvetana Topchieva says. The residents of Drangovo and Pripek, as well the ones who live in the other villages in Kardzhali district show interest in the local elections. The voters hope that the new mayors and municipal councilors will work together to make sure people do not leave this region, the life of the residents will improve and the road infrastructure and the old water supply and sewerage systems are renovated.
