Local elections runoff to take place in Sofia and 17 regional towns

The Central Electoral Commission has published the results of the first round of the local elections held in the country after 100 percent of the protocols were processed.

In the capital city Sofia current mayor Yordanka Fandakova won the first round with 36.42 percent of the votes and, at the runoff, will be running against Maya Manolova - 27.73 percent. In 9 regional towns – Vratsa, Montana, Stara Zagora, Bourgas, Veliko Turnovo, Kurdzhali, Kyustendil and Haskovo – the mayors were elected at the first round. In 8 of them the winners were the GERB party candidates, or candidates running with the support of GERB. In Kurdhazli current mayor Hasan Azis from the Movement for Rights and Freedoms (DPS) was reelected. In addition to Siofia there will be run-offs in 17 regional centres, including the major cities of Plovdiv, Varna and Rousse.
