The two Bulgarian military officers to remain in Iraq until further notice

The NATO mission in Iraq, which employs two Bulgarian officers, will be temporarily evacuated to a neighboring country, most likely Kuwait. The term of service of the Bulgarians ends in 2 weeks and then it will be decided whether to send other Bulgarian militaries to the mission, Defense Minister Krasimir Karakachanov has announced. Commenting on the request by the Iraqi parliament that all NATO troops should leave the country, Karakachanov said that the pact had already declared for security reasons that it decided to suspend its training mission, part of which are also the two Bulgarian officers. But even if the decision gets the approval of the government in Baghdad, the mission of about 430 people has to be completed within a year.
There is no risk for the security of the two Bulgarians, the minister said, adding that they had daily contact with them and that they provided information about the situation on the spot.
